Little Reviews - December 2023

As always, these are subjective opinions; I'm not trying to write a professional review. I'm just sharing my perspective and the experience I had with each of them.

🎮 VIDEO GAMES

Figment 2 🎭

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: BedTime Digital Games

The first one stood out for its art, while the rest fell a bit short. This one, on the other hand, maintains the style but significantly improves the gameplay for me, with a greater variety of mechanics and combining it with a very fun and well-crafted soundtrack. Undoubtedly, an improvement over the original. Perhaps a bit more variety in the combat system and an enhanced collectibles' system would further improve it.

Score: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8/10)

OneShot: World Machine Edition 💡

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: Future Cat LLC

Pretty interesting with the breaking the 4th wall and all, but it didn’t really catch me and I didn’t finish it. I’m more into gameplay based games than story based games. But the pixel art and illustrations are cute.

Lost in Random 🎲

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: Thunderful & Zoink

I like the art and the concept, but I just played for a few hours and got tired. The gameplay is not really my thing, feels rough and not that fun for me. I think that as a 3D platformer it would have worked better.

Ugly 🪞

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: Team Ugly

I loved this game; the mechanics are fun, challenging, and not repetitive. The art is carefully crafted and tasteful, and I like the story because it's very present without needing endless dialogues. A very well-thought-out and polished 2D platform puzzle game. However, I encountered a couple of bugs in the Switch version.

Score: ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)

Vampire Survivors 🦇

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: poncle

It was on my pending list, didn't catch my attention much, but given the buzz it's caused, I had to give it a try. It's been a good idea because it's a very fun game. An innovative mechanic that is simple but works. There's a wide variety of weapons and combinations that prevent the game from becoming repetitive too quickly, although it eventually ends up feeling repetitive like other roguelikes. The art didn't grab my attention much, but you grow fond of these Castlevania-style sprites. A surprise, I've been playing non-stop for two days, incredibly addictive.

Score: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8/10)

Cacoon 🦋

Platform: Nintendo Switch / Developers: Geometric Interactive

I really liked it. The puzzles aren't very difficult but neither extremely easy; it's a middle ground that, for me, is satisfying and prevents you from getting stuck. The best part of the game is undoubtedly its art, a marvel. It's very, very polished, although it may have felt a bit short to me.

Score: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8/10)

📺 SHOWS

The Suspect 🧐

Season: one / Platform: Movistar+

Nothing that special but pretty entertaining. I liked the lead actor and how you keep thinking he's guilty and then not and the sequence keeps repeating.

Score: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (6/10)

Yu Yu Hakusho 👉🏻

Season: one / Platform: Netflix

Too rushed, but the combat scenes were pretty dope. I actually don't remember much about the original, so for me, it wasn't that bad, I enjoyed it. But still pretty average.

Score: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (6/10)

Untameable 🎪

Season: one / Platform: Netflix

Well, I didn't expect it, but it's a really good series. It hooked me a lot, even though I didn't know anything about Bárbara or Cristo. It has some very tough moments; it's heartbreaking to think it's a reality for many women… Belén is a 10 as always, she nails everything she does. It's worth it just to understand the legendary video of Bárbara and Chelo.

Score: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8/10)

Kardashians 🕷️

Season: four / Platform: Disney+

Kim in AHS is super iconic, can’t wait for the season to drop in Spain.

Score: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ (5/10)

🎌 ANIME

Jujutsu Kaisen 🚇

Season: two / Platform: Crunchyroll

The quality of the animation is stunning, each chapter feels like a movie. Speechless. Certain events have broken my heart…

Score: ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10)

📺 FILMS

Wonka 🍫

Platform: theater

It felt a bit lengthy, I think because they overdid it with so many musical numbers. But well, it's not bad, it has some enjoyable moments.

Score: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (6/10)

Psycho-Pass: Providence 🧠

Platform: Crunchyroll

I remember the first season, but after that, not much. Still, this movie was pretty dope. Maybe the animation (specially the fighting scenes) could be a little bit better.

Score: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ (7/10)

The Nightmare Before Christmas 🎄

Platform: Disney+

Probably the movie I've watched the most in my life. It's a must-watch before Christmas, it's already a tradition. Tim Burton's masterpiece.

Score: ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)
